There are 6 available levels for learning French at SIL.
Each level consists of 4 Modules:-
DELF A1 -
This is the “Beginner level” which covers French phonetics, simple phrases, one learns to introduce himself/herself or someone else, he/she can identify and answer basic questions about home, family, surroundings, etc. In this module we teach Present, Past & Future Tenses, Adjectives, Prepositions, Modal Verbs with Question Formation, so that one can communicate and express himself/herself. At this level, spoken language is stressed, so that writing, reading & listening may be handled independently by the student.
DELF A2 –
This is the A2 or the “Elementary level”. In this level, student begins to understand isolated phrases and expressions (like personal or family information, shopping, immediate environment, work, etc.). This module covers Pronorms (Possessive Pronouns, Relative Pronouns, Advance Grammar).
DELF B1 -
At this level, the student begins to understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar subjects at work, school, leisure activities, etc. One can begin to form complex sentences in French, one can describe his or her dreams, hobbies, job, elaborate their ideas, etc. This course is requisite for people aspiring to join tourism and hospitality industries, and multi-national companies.
DELF B2 -
At this level, the student can speak clearly and elaborately on diverse subjects, can express opinions, can understand the main ideas of concrete or abstract topics in a complex text, and can communicate easily, fluently, and comfortably. This course is requisite for people aspiring to join education industry, specifically teaching French language at school levels.
DELF C1 -
This is the “Advanced level” where a student can speak, and understand a wide range of long and complicated texts, can work independently in professional and academic fronts.
DELF C2 -
At the last level, or the “Master level”, the student can easily understand almost everything he or she reads or hears. One is able to express events, and formulate arguments both orally and in written, spontaneously and fluently
SIL works for the language communities worldwide, to build their capacity for sustainable language development, by doing research, translation, training and material development for the global world to pursue their social, cultural, political, economical and spiritual goals. Its focus is to give service to language development.
Alliance Française is an Indian society which is aided by French Government and which is an authorized testing center for DELF/DALF/TCF. They offer all the French courses and their approach to teaching French is more orthodox and conservative. Although they have some of the best Indian teachers on their payrolls. SIL calls the teachers from various countries for teaching foreign languages whose mother tongue or native language is the language taught by the person.
